To play the best level of rugby possible with the resources available. Maintain a friendly, well organised club that encourages and develops younger players and coaches at all levels whilst keeping the social ethos and most importantly, to have fun!
Wallingford punches above its weight for a small town club. Our youth rugby has produced both male and female U20 internationals in 2013/4 and 2014/5 seasons. In 2010/11 our juniors were runners up in 3 of the 4 age groups at the County tournament. We have 15 junior players in the county Elite squads and a further 10 in the county development tier. Also 3 of our current U16s have made the Wasps development squad at Henley College for next year.
Our Maidens section has over 30 players and were unstoppable last season with 5 girls being called in the regional squad, 4 of whom have gone on to represent the South West, including the captain. Our minis also have had a stunning season last year where we were represented in 3 of the 6 A finals and 4 of the 6 B finals at the Oxfordshire. These results show our inclusive approach to coaching mini rugby is yielding great results whilst encouraging all children to enjoy their rugby.
Off the field Wallingford RFC is also flourishing. The club’s annual beer and music festival, Rugfest, brings hundreds of new faces to the Club. Our Sportsman’s dinners have packed out the Sports Park’s function room to hear rugby legends such as Derek Quinnell, Nigel Owens, Phil Bennett, Willie John McBride and Gareth Chilcott and more…
Since its founding in 1967 Wallingford RFC has become a major presence both on the Oxfordshire sporting scene and in the wider context of amateur rugby in Britain. As a club we are committed to build on this success and look forward with confidence to furthering the enjoyment of rugby football in this area for many years to come.
